Shadow Tourism Minister Penny Sharpe to attend the Dubbo Pride March

In Parliament | 08.10.16

Labor MLC and Deputy Chair of the NSW Cross Party Working Group on Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex (LGBTI) issues, the Honourable Penny Sharpe will join more than 200 people from across the Central West for the Dubbo Pride March being held today in Dubbo.

The Pride March is organised by the Dubbo Pride Committee and will start at 10.30am behind Dubbo Square and proceed to Macquarie Lions Park where there will be a family fun day.

The Pride March is being supported by headspace Dubbo and is run to coincide with Mental Health Month.

The march will celebrate the diversity that exists within Dubbo and surrounding areas as well as show support for those who identify as being from the LGBTI community.

Building on the success of the inaugural march in 2015, this year’s march will include floats and a family fun day with a jumping castle, free BBQ and other activities.

Quotes attributable to Shadow Minister for Tourism Penny Sharpe MLC

“Congratulations to all the people who have put together the second Dubbo Pride March to celebrate the diversity of all who live, work and play in Dubbo and the greater Central West.

“This important event shows that the LGBTI community doesn’t begin and end in Sydney. There are people from the LGBTI community living in every town who are your friends, your family, your workmates and your teammates and today we celebrate and support their contribution to our communities.

“I can’t wait to get amongst the floats, the colour and the excitement to show my support for equality and diversity in Dubbo.

“As Shadow Minister for Tourism I want to give a shout out to Destination NSW who have publicised this event as part of what to see and do when visiting regional NSW.

“I hope this event continues to grow.”
