Fair go for the West: Liberals' Moore Park upgrade the wrong priority
In Parliament | 06.10.18
An upgrade to the Sydney Showgrounds in Sydney’s west is a much higher priority than a revamp to the old showground site at Moore Park, Labor Leader Luke Foley said today.
Mr Foley was reacting to the Berejiklian Government’s announcement of a $65 million upgrade to the Moore Park precinct.
Domestic conferences and events are being lost to other states due to the Berejiklian Government’s failure to invest in the facilities at Sydney Olympic Park.
The International Convention Centre at Darling Harbour is full, yet the Liberals and Nationals have refused to fund an upgrade to the exhibition and event centre in Sydney’s west.
Meanwhile, Queensland is home to five convention centres and is cashing in on the lucrative domestic conference, exhibition and events market at the expense of NSW.
Mr Foley said that the Sydney Showgrounds at Olympic Park require a large auditorium to complement the existing exhibition space, in order to host large conferences.
