Badgery's Creek rail line vital for Western Sydney
Today’s announcement from Federal Opposition Leader Bill Shorten of support for an Airport Rail Link to Badgerys Creek is crucial for the airport’s viability, as well as Western Sydney’s economic growth.
Alongside the right road links, Western Sydney’s new airport needs to be serviced by public transport from day one – it must be included in the construction and operation tender for the airport.
The Baird and Turnbull Governments cannot continue to ignore this rail line.
Premier Mike Baird needs to stop talking about priority growth area planning for Western Sydney, and start acting on it.
Tapping Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull on the shoulder to fund a crucial rail line connecting Badgery’s Creek Airport to the rest of Sydney is an ideal place for him to start.
NSW Opposition Leader Luke Foley says:
“An airport at Badgerys Creek is the opportunity to set the foundations that will see Western Sydney go from strength to strength in decades to come.”
“Building a world-class airport in Western Sydney without a matching rail link is just absurd – it’s a no brainer that Badgerys Creek should be served by public transport from day one.”
“The Baird Government should be demanding that Malcolm Turnbull build a proper rail link to Badgerys Creek.”
Shadow Minister for Planning Penny Sharpe says:
“We know Badgerys Creek Airport is the ideal way to turbocharge jobs and infrastructure in Western Sydney – but to make full use of this opportunity, public transport must be part of the airport from day one.”
“It’s clear that the Baird Government must do more to ensure the future prosperity of Western Sydney is realised by introducing the crucial infrastructure it will need in the future, now.”
“If Mike Baird is serious about creating a prosperous Western Sydney, he’ll have some serious conversations with Malcolm Turnbull about funding this rail line.”
