SYDNEY TRAINS PACKED TO BURSTING POINT

EVEN STANDING ROOM IS RUNNING OUT – NEW RAILCORP FIGURES SHOW

New figures reported today reveal overcrowding on the CityRail network has escalated out of control – with average patronage on peak hour trains increasing from 119 per cent to 123 per cent of capacity in the past 12 months.

Shadow Minister for Transport Penny Sharpe said this means Sydney morning train commuters – already stung by a 5.4 percent increase in fares this year – are less likely to get a seat and more likely to experience delays.

Commuters are paying higher fares for longer and more frequent train delays under Barry O'Farrell – with the government's own figures revealing CityRail is failing to meet on time running benchmarks.

"Under the O'Farrell Government, commuters have been forced to experience longer and more frequent delays right across the CityRail network," Shadow Transport Minister, Penny Sharpe said today.

MINISTER MUST RULE OUT STATION STAFF CUTS

At least 95 stations risk losing their staff under the O'Farrell Government's cost cutting review of RailCorp – which will lead to unsafe stations and no special assistance for the disabled and elderly.

"The O'Farrell Government must rule out cuts to station staffing as part of the RailCorp review," Shadow Transport Minister, Penny Sharpe said today.
