O’FARRELL DELAYS SOUTH WEST SYDNEY SEWERAGE CONNECTIONS -

BREAKS KEY ELECTION PROMISE TO REGION

The O’Farrell Government has been caught out delaying the connection of 820 south west Sydney households to the sewerage network – with Yanderra residents set to have their sewerage connections postponed indefinitely.

“Prior to the election, Barry O’Farrell promised to fast track the connection of Wilton, Douglas Park and Yanderra households to the sewerage network,” Shadow Water Minister, Luke Foley said.

“Now an amendment to Sydney Water Operating Licence has revealed the O’Farrell Government is reneging on its promise and will delay sewerage connections for some residents indefinitely.

“Barry O’Farrell and the Member for Wollondilly, Jai Rowell campaigned on fast tracking sewerage connections but now they are delaying connections indefinitely.”

“The O’Farrell Government and Jai Rowell have been trying to mislead local residents and pretend these delays aren’t happening,” Mr Foley said.

“Jai Rowell is still out in the community talking up his plans to fast track sewerage connections when he knows Wilton and Douglas Park will be years late and Yanderra doesn’t even have a start date.

“Yanderra residents have been completely forgotten by the O’Farrell Government, with Mr O’Farrell now only agreeing to start planning work at the same time he promised the connections would be finished.

“It’s clear the O’Farrell Government has very quickly forgotten about the people of south west Sydney.”

Shadow Minister for Environment: O'FARRELL LIES ON PUBLIC TRANSPORT FARES

O'FARRELL LIES ON PUBLIC TRANSPORT FARES

Barry O'Farrell is misleading the public by suggesting that future public transport fare increases will result from the carbon price, the Shadow Minister for Environment and Climate Change, Luke Foley said today.

"Barry O'Farrell is making the most outlandish claims about the carbon price - to soften people up for steep increases to Government fares, charges and taxes, and for harsh service cuts in his Budget," said Mr Foley.

"Federal Treasury modelling predicts public transport fare increases of 0.5 per cent, an average of 10 cents a week.

Opposition Media Release: NEW ENVIRONMENT MINISTER REFUSES TO STAND UP FOR THE ENVIRONMENT

The Opposition asked many questions of the new Minister for the Environment today during Question Time. This media release is a result of her answers (or lack there of):

NSW Environment Minister, Robyn Parker has refused to stand up for the environment in Parliament today and left the door open for the Government to increase land clearing and reduce protections for threatened species.

The new Minister also signalled that Marine Parks are in the firing line and failed to explain how the environment will be managed, now that NSW does not have an Environment Department.

Leader of the Opposition John Robertson said the O'Farrell Government has made it clear that environmental protections are on the chopping block.
