As Sydney farewelled the Pope the government has announced:
- A three month trial of new, super discount off-peak rail tickets would begin for Western Sydney services, to offer further cost of living assistance and ease congestion for commuters;
- The start of construction on one the $1 billion expansion of Port Botany, one of the largest infrastructure projects in Australia; and
- The Premier welcomed the Rudd Government's Green Paper on its Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme.
In the past fortnight:
- I attended the Ministerial Council on Mineral and Petroleum Resources.
- Opened the Great Southern Oceans exhibit at Taronga Zoo. Here is a pic and my speech.
- Spoke at Talking Heads at the Toxteth Hotel which also raises funds for East Timor
- Attended the launch of the Principles of Multiculturalism kit for local government
I also attended the funeral of Allan Raisin. Allan Raisin worked for the Department of Community Services for over 20 years. He was the person in NSW who knew more about services for homeless people than almost anyone else. He was one of life's great enthusiasts with passion for his family, photography, red wine, good food and the world around him. He also made a difference to everyone he came into contact with. He made an enormous contribution to tackling homelessness across NSW, Allan literally assisted thousands of our states most vulnerable men, women and children. Vale Allan.
