Mine safety is a crucial issue for the mining industry across Australia. In recognition of this, the Ministerial Council on Mineral and Petroleum Resources has been coordinating the National Mine Safety Framework (NMSF) - a mechanism that aims to deliver greater consistency in mine safety and health regulation across Australia.
Public consultations are currently underway for the final four strategies of the Framework:
The NMSF Steering Group wants to hear from anyone who may be impacted by these strategies. You can download the papers from the links above and more info is available on the Department of Resources, Energy and Tourism website.
The Steering Group will also be holding half-day facilitated workshops including one in Sydney Thursday, 24 July. If you would like to register your interest in attending this workshops, please contact the NMSF Secretariat at NMSF.Secretariat@ret.gov.au or on 02 6213 7244.
Submissions close on Monday 4 August 2008.
What is the National Mine Safety Framework?
The NMSF is an initiative of the Ministerial Council on Mineral and Petroleum Resources. It consists of seven strategies, focussed on key areas where consistency across jurisdictions would be most beneficial: nationally consistent legislation; competency support; compliance support; a consistently applied enforcement protocol; effective data collection and analysis; consistent approaches to consultation; and a strategic approach to research.
