"Feminism is a socialist, anti-family, political movement that
encourages women to leave their husbands, kill their children, practice witchcraft, destroy capitalism and become lesbians."
I thought it was about equality...

20 years ago, aged 19, I attended my first demonstration. It was outside the Chinese Embassy. I was there as a result of the images I had seen in Tiananmen Square. It was the first time I had actually thought about what democracy meant and (from my safe and somewhat sheltered youth in Canberra) it began to dawn on me why it was important.
As news coverage remembered the people who lost their lives in Tiananmen Square and the Chinese government tried to pretend it never happened - this week there were protests outside parliament from sex workers to farmers to individuals with issues with the police and the courts. NSW is if nothing else, a robust democracy.
A new national park, approval for a giant wind farm, more TV and films being shot in NSW, an expansion of early intervention programs for families and better protection for renters were some of the good news stories you may have missed this week.
The NSW Budget will be on 16 June. I will be putting out a special edition of Red Leather with an overview across the portfolios.
Website of the week. Senator Kate Lundy's new site is the best example of Gov 2.0 I've seen. Check out here public sphere events and get involved.
Video of the week: The Defenders on Prop 8
