"The school formal is meant to be a formal dance between a young man and a young woman, not a young man and a young man,"
"We love all our [gay] students as we do all people in our churches but their lifestyle is not encouraged, particularly if it was a promiscuous lifestyle. We are dealing with young people here.

75 days until inauguration starts Obama's website. It is the first evidence of Obama's determination to involve all who want to be involved in his administration.
The first blog says "Change.gov provides resources to better understand the transition process and the decisions being made as part of it. It also offers an opportunity to be heard about the challenges our country faces and your ideas for tackling them. The Obama Administration will reflect an essential lesson from the success of the Obama campaign: that people united around a common purpose can achieve great things
The site in encouraging people to apply for jobs, learn about the transition process, have input into his agenda and most importantly continue the momentum of his campaign by asking people to share their concerns, hopes and dreams.
This is in stark contrast to online campaigning and engagement in Australia. While the Kevin07 campaign set a new standard, like most administrations, once elected, the online participation has dramatically decreased.
I recently had an intern who did a project for me about politicians in NSW and their presence online it was not a pretty picture - only 39 out of 136 MP's even have a website.
I am keen to pursue this issue further in NSW. What would you like to see from your MP's online? What is the trigger that would get you to respond to a blog? Would you be interested in group blogs from upper house members? Would you participate if committees have online consultations about their inquiries? We don't have online petitions or reviews of the petitions that are tables in the parliament.
All ideas welcome.
I wouldnt be blogging if I
I wouldnt be blogging if I was in NSW either! What good news is there to promote? NSW is on par with Zimbabwe.
Response from Penny
Thanks for your comment - one of the reasons I blog is to take on board all comments - positive and negative.
There is no doubt that NSW is in difficult times. There is however, alot of good news. Across many parts of government there is signficant work that is underway and being achieved. Much of this work will never make the papers because good news does not sell papers.
Some of our recent achievements include: an extra $1billion into disability services, funding for a new metro in the city, additional funding for special needs teachers in schools, funding for kids in the poorest areas of the state, free eye screening for all 4 year olds in NSW, there have been 8000 new nurses and midwives employed in NSW since 2000, NSW hospitals have the best performing emergency departments in the country. NSW school students are performing better than all other students in Australia and are in the top 3 in the world.
The government is tacking climate change with significant funding for communities across the state and the recent announcements of feed in tariffs for people who covert to solar energy.
This government has put in an additional $40million to combat violence against women and has reformed our sexual assault laws to bring them into the 21st century.
There is so much more to what we are doing. If you are interested in a specific area, please let me know and I'll follow it up for you.
Penny
