And the Winners of the 2011 GLORIAs are:
The Golden GLORIA for the worst comment of the year went to Jim Wallace from the Australian Christian Lobby for his winning comments in the religion category:
Religion: Managing Director of the Australian Christian Lobby Jim Wallace for his ANZAC day tweet
"Just hope that as we remember Servicemen and women today we remember the Australia they fought for - wasn't gay marriage and Islamic"
Mr Wallace has apologised for this tweet but he also won for saying that expelling a gay child from a school for being gay was a loving response.
Sport: Jason Akermanis for his comments saying that gay AFL players should not come out.
Media: Channel 7 news reporter Adam Walters for his reporting on former Transport Minister David Campbell
Politics: Victorian Liberal MP Geoff Shaw for his email to a 20 year old gay constituent who wrote to him to object to (then) proposed changes to the anti discrimination act.
Mr Shaw's email likened being gay to being a child molester, a drunk, a speeding driver, a murderer, drug abuser or thief.
Online: the anonymous ex ADF member who set up the gay hate facebook group that named members of the ADF as gay resulting in members of the Australian Army receiving homophobic email threats.
International: Ugandan MP David Bahati for his (now withdrawn) Anti Homosexuality Bill - known as the "kill the gays bill" that would introduce the death penalty for people who have previous convictions (for being gay), or if HIV positive or if they engage in sexual acts with people of the same sex.
Law: the Australian Immigration Dept for the deportation of a man from Lebanon who had experienced serious physical abuse from his family as a result of being gay.
Silliest comment from someone within the GLBTI community: Gary Burns for his comments defending Channel 7's actions in relation to former Transport Minister David Campbell.
Thanks to all who nominated the 47 comments in the past 12 months. Thanks to the hundreds of people who voted online to short list the winners in our 8 categories. Thanks also to the 100 people who came to Parliament House on Friday night - a great night was had by all.
Thanks especially to Amber Jacobus from my office who put together this event.
See you next year!
Also - If we ask nicely I'm hoping that Ghassan will share the words to the song he wrote especially for the night.

Hi Penny, Are you saying that taxpayer funds and parliamentary resources went into these "awards"?
Thanks.

Ross - the GLORIAs are run by me as a member of parliament. The costs of the GLORIAs is covered by the cost of the ticket price by those who attend the dinner. Any additional costs are met by me personally.
