LABOR CALLS FOR TAYLOR SQUARE RAINBOW CROSSING TO STAY

NSW Labor has thrown its support behind the community campaign to keep the rainbow crossing at Taylor Square as a way to permanently celebrate the contribution of Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex people and their families to the city.

Shadow Minister for Transport, Penny Sharpe said Oxford Street was known worldwide as the hub of the GLBTI community in Australia.

“Oxford Street is famous around the world and I am confident that the rainbow crossing will become another attraction for Sydneysiders and tourists to come and see when they are in the city,” she said.

“The Shadow Minister for Roads and I have written to Duncan Gay today urging him to keep the rainbow crossing.

"I hope that common sense prevails and the crossing can become a permanent part of Oxford Street."

FAMILIES LET DOWN BY THE O'FARRELL GOVERNMENT - TWO YEAR ANNIVERSARY

The O'Farrell Government has let down the families of NSW in the two years since they were elected – and sent the cost of living soaring while taking the axe to school resources and hospital funding.

NSW Opposition Leader John Robertson today released a document (attached) marking the O'Farrell Government's two years in office alongside nurses and hospital workers at Westmead Hospital.

Mr O'Farrell has cut nearly $3 million from this year's staffing budget at Westmead Hospital – despite it being one of the State's busiest hospitals in the heart of Western Sydney.

NOMINATIONS OPEN FOR 4TH ANNUAL GLORIAS
(Gay & Lesbian Outrageous, Ridiculous and Ignorant comment Awards)

Labor Member of the NSW Legislative Assembly, Penny Sharpe, today announced that nominations are open for the 2013 GLORIAs.

Now in their fourth year, the GLORIAs are an annual event that shines a light on the outrageous, ridiculous and ignorant comments that GLTBI people and their families experience every day.

"Every day GLTBI people and their families are subject to homophobic and transphobic comments from people in public life,” Ms Sharpe said.

"These awards are a chance to turn the tables and put the focus back on to those people making discriminatory comments.”

Hosted by special guest David Marr, this year awards will be given in six categories - Media, Sport, Politics / Law, Religion, Silliest GLBTI & International.
