MEDIA RELEASE | September 10, 2012

$74 BILLION BLACK HOLE EXPOSED

MOTORISTS TO PAY $22 BILLION ROAD TOLL BILL

DIRECT TRAINS FROM THE NORTH WEST TO THE CBD 20 YEARS AWAY

Reports today reveal there is a $74 billion black hole in the O'Farrell Government's Transport Masterplan and more 'back of the envelope' calculations include charging motorists an extra $22 billion in tolls over the next 20 years.

Leaked cabinet documents reported today reveal the O'Farrell Government will also look at delaying or cancelling projects announced only a week ago including the Second Harbour Crossing and upgrades to Wynyard, Town Hall and Central Stations – in order to plug the funding gap.

Opposition Leader John Robertson said the O'Farrell Government's plan to fix Sydney's transport woes is now in complete disarray.

O'FARRELL'S DUD DEAL ON THE NORTH WEST SHUTTLE

Media Release | Thursday, 6 September 2012

O'FARRELL'S DUD DEAL ON THE NORTH WEST SHUTTLE  -

$8 BILLION TO SAVE A MINUTE IN TRAVEL TIME – CATCHING THE BUS IS FASTER

The O'Farrell Government is trying to sell the people of NSW a dud deal on its proposed shuttle service to Chatswood – which will cost at least $8 billion, but have virtually no impact on congestion.

Today it was revealed the shuttle service would have almost no impact on road congestion – with the average motorist only saving one minute per trip between Rouse Hill and Macquarie Park once the second rate service is built.

Experts have said that in many cases, residents will be better off sticking with the bus.

O'FARRELL'S TRANSPORT PLAN A SHAMBLES

Tuesday, 4 September 2012 | MEDIA RELEASE

John Robertson MP | NSW Opposition Leader

O'FARRELL'S TRANSPORT PLAN A SHAMBLES -

DISTANCE BASED TOLLING, HIGHER REGO FEES, INCREASED PARKING FEES

NO DELIVERY TIMETABLE, MONEY OR RELIEF FOR COMMUTERS AND MOTORISTS

The O'Farrell Government has let down the people of NSW with its transport masterplan - which confirms the Premier is introducing distance based tolling and jacking up car rego and parking fees, but has no delivery timetable and no costings for any major projects.

The Premier has confirmed distance based tolling is on the agenda for Sydney roads:

"We will investigate a consistent distance-based tolling regime for the Sydney motorway network… [so] those who use the roads more pay more."

(2012 Transport Masterplan, p329)

At the same time, Barry O'Farrell has failed to confirm how he will pay for and when he will deliver any new motorways, the second harbour crossing or the North West Rail Link.
